Voters in Aarhus and Copenhagen swam against the tide

Denmark’s two largest cities saw a strong showing of people from the ‘yes’ contingent

While most of Denmark responded with a ‘nej!’ to yesterday’s referendum vote (53.1 percent to 46.9 percent), voters in Aarhus and Copenhagen swam against the tide.

While voters across most of the country voted ‘no’, Aarhus and Copenhagen, Denmark’s two biggest cities, saw a strong showing of people supporting the ‘yes’ camp.

In Copenhagen city centre, 60.2 percent cast a ‘yes’ vote, while Østerbro chalked up 56 percent. Overall, a total of 50.3 percent voted yes in Copenhagen Municipality.

Voters in Aarhus echoed this sentiment, with 51 percent in Aarhus North, 54.7 percent in Aarhus South and 56.8 percent in Aarhus East voting ‘yes’. Aarhus West saw a narrow preference for ‘no’, though.

Other places in Denmark that fell in line with Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s way of thinking were Roskilde, Skanderborg and Ringkøbing.
