A 73-year-old Danish woman has died after last night falling overboard from a ferry that sails between the city of Trat and the island of Koh Chang in Thailand.
Her body was found this morning following a search by rescue workers, and the consular office at the Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death.
“The woman’s relatives have been informed, but I cannot any give further details,” an employee at the Foreign Ministry told Dagens.dk.
Ferry captain searched
The woman fell overboard about 30 minutes into the journey. There were only about 1,000 metres left to travel to the dock at Dan Kao on the island of Koh Chang, according to Thai media reports
The ferry’s captain turned his boat about immediately when it became clear that the woman had fallen overboard. He searched for about an hour before deciding to dock at Koh Chang and let the other passengers disembark.
A full-scale rescue operation was then launched, and following an intense search, the woman’s body was found at around 9:50 local time this morning.
