Around 900,000 Danes risk being the victims of data and identity theft after the Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Interior yesterday accidentally leaked their personal CPR identity numbers, Børsen reports.
The leak was discovered by Finn Gilling, the owner of Gilling APS, a company that works with private data as the state distributor of property information.
"We immediately reacted and notified the personal information office of all the CPR numbers we see on our list," he told Børsen.
"We didn't get an answer from the office before 7:29 pm, with a message that the list had been taken down. As I see it, the Danish CPR system is so compromised that the number alone shouldn't be used for any sort of online transactions."
Robinson list
According to the newspaper, it is the so-called Robinson list that has been leaked. The list is compiled of people who don't want to receive targeted spam mail through the post or want to be called up by salesmen.
