Whoever said old is out? It certainly isn’t true of vintage clothing. For those of you new to retro-shopping, this guide might prove helpful given that we still are in an economic recession that is not yet ready to be classified as something belonging to the past.

Carmen – While the name may initially make you think of let-go cleaning ladies, this store is in fact one of Copenhagen’s hidden vintage treasures. With its unique touch of French elegance, Carmen is the place to go in search of exclusive vintage Christian Dior or Sonia Rykiel pieces. With its large variety of dresses, silk kimonos, and second-hand boots, the ambience is upper-class. If you don’t mind wearing last year’s Dior, or you’re in desperate need of some new rocker boots and pretty bijoux for the summer, this is the absolute MUST-GO of Copenhagen.

Time’s Up – Mostly known for their second-hand Channel and Comme des Garçons designer shirts, the store also houses beautiful, long ‘70s dresses in every pattern and colour imaginable. The shoes are perfectly lined up at the back, and whole sections of denim are also to be found.

Kongens Klæ’r – If you want to dress in clothes fit for a king, this is the vintage stop that will give you the royal treatment. As one of Copenhagen’s oldest second-hand shops, Kongens Klæ’r has affordable prices that follow the trend of the season. The store always has a large range of leather jackets, denim, and amazing accessories. Torben, the shop owner, is always welcoming, and it won’t take long before you warm to the sparkling vibe of the ‘80s.

Wasteland – Contrary to what the name may inspire, this place is much more than a land of waste. The American retro clothing company Wasteland specialises in retro band style – it’s the place to go to in search of those elusive music T-shirts (Phil Collins, Dire Straits, The Police etc) and colourful ‘80s jumpsuits. Everything is funky at a second-hand shop that is a mecca for music enthusiasts.
