Gang members sentenced collectively for guns

In several recent cases, numerous gang members have taken the fall when one of them has broken the law

Six members of the Bandidos biker gang were sentenced collectively on Monday for three firearms that were found in a Hvidovre clubhouse in March.

Glostrup City Court convicted all of the men despite one of them confessing to buying and hiding the guns in the building without the knowledge of the other members. Only his DNA was found on the weapons.

But the prosecution argued that the man, a 29-year-old who was in his initiation phase with the gang, was attempting to protect the other members who would have known about the weapons.

Three younger men who were also in the clubhouse when it was stormed by police escaped conviction. The three are members of the Bandidos support group Mexi Gang. The support group's lack of decision-making powers in the gang led to their acquittal.

The six men were handed sentences of between 15 months and two years in prison and while several immediately appealed, the 29-year-old did not as he had already confessed.

According to Ritzau, the weapons were bought to protect the gang members from attacks after the clubhouse had twice been shot at by a rival gang.

Police suspect that the gang Brothas was behind those attacks and yesterday 13 members of that gang were charged in another group case involving weapons.

That case involves the discovery of three shotguns that were found buried in Gladsaxe Cemetery when the 13 men, aged between 19 and 32, were arrested by police in April.

Police say that the gang was attempting to transfer the weapons to fellow gang Værebros Hårde Kerne (VHK) when police stepped in and arrested the men.

While the defence argues that it cannot be proved that all 13 members were aware of the weapons, the prosecution argues that all present were responsible since the act was carried out as a group.

The cases follow three similar convictions by Glostrup City Court in recent weeks.

On June 21, two men were sentenced to 15 months in jail for acting as armed guards for the gang Værebrobanden. Only one was carrying a loaded pistol.

On July 1, one man was handed a 12 month sentence and another 15 months behind bars for guarding a Værebrobanden clubhouse where police found a loaded revolver and 65 bullets.

And on July 3, three members of Værebrobanden were given 18-month sentences for guarding a pizzeria . They were all wearing bulletproof vests and carried walkie talkies and had hidden a revolver nearby.
