Enjoy kayak racing at the beach this weekend, a one-day music festival in Valbyparken, or the sweet sounds of opera throughout the city. 

 

Kayak Race at Amager Strandpark
Denmark’s only kayak race with a ‘Le Mans style’ start, where competitors race across a portion of the track to reach their kayaks, takes place this weekend. More than 250 kayakers flock to Amager Strand on the last Saturday of July each year to participate in either the under 16, under 18, regular or non-racer water tracks. Spectators can take in the race from the shore, and enjoy the drinks, snacks and music available on land.

Green Concert
With a lineup including Carpark North, Lukas Graham and Medina, the Green Concert is back for its annual series of one-day festivals across Denmark. Arranged by Muskelvindfonden, a support organisation for sufferers of muscular dystrophy, the festival features only Danish musical acts and is run by volunteers. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase as you enjoy the wide range of musical genres, from pop to electronic rock and almost everything in between.

Copenhagen Opera Festival
Feel the city bursting with drama and song when world-class opera artists take over the streets, canals and churches of Copenhagen next week. The festival merges tradition and innovation by bringing opera out of the concert halls and into more unexpected spaces. Enjoy events ranging from opera canal tours, outdoor performances on at Torvehallerne food halls and even opera bingo.

Kids Tour of DR Byen
What better offer of a production tour to take up on than one made by DR, the nation’s oldest and largest broadcasting company? DR is calling all lovers of the mechanics behind putting TV and radio programs on air. Their kids tour of DR Byen, the company’s studios, will give participants who may be fans of TV show X-Factor or radio show Radioavisen the chance to see what goes on when the cameras aren’t rolling during their favourite presentations. Ideal for children aged four to 12.

Songs and Sonnets at the Slotspavillion
Spend a few hours at Aldershilve Slotspark listening to words and music from Shakespeare, Tennyson, Wordsworth, John Dowland and many more. Afterwards, enjoy an afternoon tea or coffee and cake at the pavillion and a stroll around the park grounds. Aldershvile Slotspark is situated just 20 minutes north of Copenhagen, and its location near Bagsværd Lake makes for a delightful summer afternoon outing.

Every Monday and Friday during the summer holidays, get a special look behind the scenes at the national aquarium, Den Blå Planet. Learn about the various types of aquatic life housed there, and enjoy the extended hours of the aquarium, which is open until 21:00 on Mondays and Fridays in July.
