“If they play the Orange Stage, will they paint it black?” music fans are asking today as rumours from a credible source circulate that the Rolling Stones will be confirmed as the Roskilde Festival’s headline act for 2014.
The British rockers, who celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, are scheduled to play at the Belgian festival CW Classics on June 28, a week before this year’s Roskilde, which is scheduled to finish on July 6.
This would therefore place the band in the right continent and make a Roskilde appearance logistically easier. Additionally, CW Classics and Roskilde are known to be close collaborators when it comes to booking acts.
Credible source
The source of the rumour, BT tabloid, has proven to be a reliable source of Roskilde exclusives in the past. It revealed the attendance of Prince (2010) and Bruce Springsteen (2012) long before they were officially confirmed.
According to BT, the Danish festival will pay the band 20 million kroner – half its entire budget for paying performers but considerably below the fee Mick Jagger and co normally charge. But then again, you can't always get what you want.
Nevertheless, it is far more than the 5.7 million it paid last year to Rihanna.
Last month rumours that U2 were being lined up for this year’s festival failed to materialise.
