Runners competing in the half marathon this Saturday may want to apply some suntan lotion if they wish to avoid getting sunburned.

According to the national meteorologists, the weekend is expected to reach temperatures of 16 degrees Celsius and offer plenty of sunshine.

“Generally, it’s looking like a fantastic weekend with sunshine and two-digit temperatures," Michael Skelbæk, a DMI meteorologist, told Berlingske newspaper.

"On Saturday, much of the country will enjoy temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees C, although it will be cooler along the coasts."

The sunny weather will be accompanied with slight or no winds and temperatures will soar to 16 degrees in parts of Denmark on Sunday. There is, however, a slight chance of short showers.

DMI believes that spring is upon us in earnest now, although temperatures are once again expected to drop a bit next week.

“The really nice weather won’t last, because a cold front is coming down from the northeast during Monday night and temperatures will fall,” Skelbæk said.

“But in many places, temperatures will remain between 8 and 10 degrees C. There will be plenty of sun and fine spring weather in store.”

Temperatures on Monday could stay as high as 15 degrees C before the cold front arrives later that night.
