Danish history-app selected for coveted award

Abu Dhabi will play host to the World Summit Award-mobile, honouring brightest e-content

World Heritage Denmark, an interactive app designed by the Danish Agency for Culture, is set to be honoured at the global UN-based World Summit Award-Mobile (WSA) in Abu Dhabi early next year.

The app brings to life three Danish World Heritage Sites: Kronborg Castle, the Jelling Stones and Roskilde Cathedral through features such as storytelling, 3D maps and panoramic views.

The WSA aims to celebrate and promote the brightest e-content on a global platform and will run from February 1-3. Over 100 countries took part in the competition and, with 480 submissions made, World Heritage Denmark won the award in the Tourism & Culture category.

Wonderful recognition
“It is wonderful to be recognised in this way. Denmark has worked hard to make its heritage sites more accessible to the public," Morten Lautrup-Larsen, the head of the Danish Agency for Culture, told Jyllands Posten.

"It shows we can participate at the highest level of digital communication, and I hope the award will put a spotlight on Danish World Heritage Sites, garnering interest both home and abroad.”

The app is free to download from the App Store, and prospective visitors to the three sites will be able to borrow an iPad Mini starting next year.
