Aarhus finally gets some Michelin stars

Frederikshøj, Gastromé and Substans all awarded a star

Noted culinary evaluator Michelin handed out its prestigious Michelin Stars today in its first ever 'Michelin Guide Nordic Cities' with Copenhagen restaurants getting 18 and Aarhus getting its first three.

Aarhus received its first stars as the newly-launched Nordic Guide includes more restaurants from outside the Scandinavian capitals. Three of its restaurants – Frederikshøj, Gastromé and Substans – were all given a single star each.

”We're really pleased to be able to offer readers recommendations about restaurants and hotels in two new cities,” Rebecca Burr, the editor of Michelin Guide Nordic Cities 2015, said.

”The Scandinavian kitchen has really lifted its level of quality in this part of the world. Aarhus is a lively city with a variety of gastronomy, while fertile Scania provides Malmö with a rich selection of quality goods just outside its city gates.”

It's A OK for AOC
In Copenhagen, Noma and Geranium retained their two-star status, while AOC also received two stars for the first time.

Restaurants in the capital that received one star were Clou, Den Røde Cottage, Era Ora, formel B, Grønbech & Churchill, Kadeau, Kiin Kiin, Kokkeriet, Marchal, Relæ, Søllerød Kro and Studio at the Standard.

The 18 Michelin stars make Copenhagen the top destination in Scandinavia, followed by Stockholm (12), Oslo (6) and Helsinki (5).

Additionally, 10 restaurants in Copenhagen were awarded Bib Gourmand honours for serving exceptionally good food for moderate prices. These were L’Altro, Bror, Enomania, Famo, Frederiks Have, Kødbyens Fiskebar, Marv & Ben, Mêlée, Pluto and Rebel. In Aarhus, Hærværk and Pondus received the award.

A bridge not too far
Just a short jump across the Øresund Bridge in Scania, there were also stars handed out as Malmö was given its first stars with Ambiance à Vindåkra, Bloom in the Park and Vollmers all garnering one star each.

In Gothenburg, Thörnströms Kök, 28+, Sjömagasinet, Bhoga, Koka and SK Mat & Människor also received a star each.

Aside from restaurants, the Nordic Guide 2015 also included recommendations for 366 hotels and restaurants in seven cities in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
