Denmark among Europe’s best for train services

Only Switzerland and Sweden fared better

It may surprise some commuters, but Denmark has been ranked as having the third best train service in Europe, according to the new European Railway Performance Index (RPI) published by the international analysis firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Denmark wasn’t part of the previous index in 2012 due to the unavailability of data, but that’s not been the case this year. Switzerland and Sweden topped the rankings, followed by the Danes, France, Finland and Germany.

“This country [Denmark] makes its first appearance in the RPI with a rating of 6.4 overall. It has an excellent rating for safety and good ratings for intensity of use and quality of service,” the index found.

Top for safety
Denmark’s RPI score of 6.4 consisted of evaluations concerning the intensity of use, quality of service and safety. The Danes scored top in Europe for safety with a score of 2.8, and also fared well for intensity of use (1.9) and quality of service (1.7).

The top ten was rounded up by Austria, the UK, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Bulgaria, Portugal and Poland finished at the bottom of the index.

The index (here in English) is published every three years.
