Pharoahe Monch, a 42-year-old American rapper from the New York borough of Queens, has been active as an artist since 1987 and slowly made his name as a hip-hop icon.
He was first part of several groups – the most prominent being Organized Konfusion with his partner Prince Poetry – before he went solo.
He is known for complex lyrics and intricate rhyme schemes, which Kool Moe Dee notes “is like an eloquent linguistics professor moonlighting as a rhyme serial killer terrorist”.
In 2014 he released his latest solo album, PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which exhibits hip-hop craft at the highest level.
