On this day 40 years ago in 1975, Parliament approved a law that made the use of seat-belts in cars mandatory.

The law – which came into effect in January 1976 – was approved four years after Denmark’s worst year in terms of traffic accidents, when 1,213 people were killed and 27,587 were injured.
