PICK OF THE WEEK:
Ladies of London
TV3, THU 22:00
Drama, tears and tantrums are on the menu when her royal craziness Caroline Flemming joins the cast of Ladies of London. Watch the 40-year-old royal socialite (attempt to) keep up appearences with other high society femme fatales.
No stranger to TV as the uncrowned queen of Danish celebrity hooha, Flemming has already appeared on numerous reality TV shows such as The Baroness Moves In and Denmark’s Next Top Model.
So, if you’ve missed out on her over-the-top behaviour and are in need of an entainment fix requiring little mental activity on the viewer’s end – you’ll be sure to get it here.
Caroline and the rest of the polished ladies of leisure are hitting Danish screens following their launch on American television in the spring.
Brace yourselves – there may be turbulence. (KP)
ALSO NEW:
In The KKK and American Veterans, Vice News travels to Mississippi, a region infamous for its sometimes violent racial divides, where the KKK is experiencing a surge in membership consisting almost entirely of disenfranchised veterans.
Equally affecting is Inside Lebanon’s Hostage Crisis (DR2, Thu 00:40), which tells the story of the longest-held US hostage, Terry Anderson, through interviews and gritty re-enactments.
Another hard-to-watch, but important doc is Namibia: Genocide and the Second Reich (DRK, Mon 23:15), which tells the forgotten story of the massacre of the Herero people at the hands of the German colony in Namibia.
For something a little more uplifting, try docu-series, The Great Human Odyssey (DR2 Sun 23:00), which tells the story of human origins and explores what has made us, homo sapiens, ‘the miraculous survivors’.
Elsewhere, we’ve got a spooky new teen series, Evermore (K5, Sat 19:10), which has middling reviews; Stephen King series Under the Dome (Zulu, Sun 10:05) continue with S3; the Christmas calendar season starts with Juleønsket (TV2, Tue 20:00); and get nostalgic with Frank Sinatra – Live from Madison Square Garden (DRK, Sat 21:55) or stay current with the American Music Awards (DR3, Sat 21:00). COMING SOON:
Marvel’s Jessica Jones
Do we need another superhero series? Netflix and Marvel Studios thought so and it’s scored 81 on Metacritic, so job done!
Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is a more human version of a superhero. She is broken and flawed, but she can’t stop helping others. She resolves cases, but sinks herself into alcohol and isolation afterwards. A man (David Tennant) from her past appears to haunt her. To fight back she will have to face her own ghosts.
Written by Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight), this noirish thriller will show you a sweet taste of revenge, screaming to the world: ‘Women have power.’
Watch the 12 episodes on Netflix now! (EN)
SPORT OF THE WEEK:
Britain, in its first final since 1978, will be bidding to win its first Davis Cup since 1936. Watch it at the Globe and see if Andy Murry, sorry Britain, can beat Belgium. Elsewhere, we’ve got NBA action galore, the Trampoling World Championships (DR3, Fri-Sun), the Abu Dhabi GP (3+, Sun 13:00) and EPL top-of-the-table clash , but who would have thought! (BH)
FILM OF THE WEEK:
Off to Oz this week. Charlie’s Country, an aboriginal’s tale, has won numerous awards, while The Hunter follows a mercenary (Willem Defoe) to Tasmania on a bizarre mission. Also possibly worthy of your time are David Cronenberg’s shrink drama A Dangerous Method (DRK, Thu 21:30), Frank Langella in Starting out in the Evening and The Wolverine (TV3, Sun 21:00). (BH)
