Denmark donating 30 million kroner to fight corruption in Kosovo

The Balkan republic is one of seven priority countries under the Danish Neighbourhood Programme

Denmark will donate 30 million kroner to support civil society and fight against corruption in Kosovo.

“Kosovo is making progress, but they are still challenged when it comes to good governance, corruption, and civil society engagement,” stated the foreign minister, Kristian Jensen.

“Stability in Kosovo is important. Therefore, I am pleased that Denmark now supports the country with 30 million kroner that is also earmarked for fight against corruption, which is one of the main priorities.”

Highly corrupted
The Balkan republic currently ranks 110th out of 175 countries on the Transparency International’s corruption index, and the issue is also high on the political agenda in the disputed territory.

In co-operation with the UN, Denmark will also work on strengthening Kosovo’s civil society organisations.

Kosovo is one of seven priority countries under the Danish Neighbourhood Programme for 2013-17 that also supports Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Georgia.
