Light rail initiatives being discussed in southern Sweden

Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg expected to benefit

As negotiations continue in Sweden about the possibility of high-speed rail and other infrastructure projects, there have been loud calls for light rail investment in Scania’s three largest cities: Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg.

A light rail connection between Lund Central Station and the research facility ESS, another between Helsingborg Central Station and Väla, and a connection between the port at Malmö and Lindängen are some of the regional infrastructure projects on the table.

Some projects in, some out
The goal is to improve the capacity and availability of rail services and to stimulate the construction of more housing in the area.
