Today’s Date: HC Ørsted dies

A familiar name to those magnetised to his park

On this day in 1851, the renowned Danish scientist Hans Christian Ørsted died in Copenhagen aged 73.

Ørsted, who is known as the father of electromagnetism, was a close friend of HC Andersen and considered one of the central characters in Denmark’s golden age.

To this day, the park that bears his name in Copenhagen is fittingly a point of attraction.
