Nothing can hold him back

British singer and guitarist James Bay played a sold out debut show in Denmark at Vega

British singer and guitarist James Bay, recently awarded the Brit Award for Best British Male Singer, played a sold out show at Store Vega last Wednesday night.

Chaos and the Calm
Since rising to fame in 2014 with his hit single ‘Hold back the river’, Bay has continued on a tsunami of success.

Just 25 years old, the artist played songs from his debut record ‘Chaos and the Calm’, a fitting title that sums up his performance style.

All the right songs
Bay’s success is no surprise to anyone who’s seen him play.

Wearing his obligatory black hat and a worn-out t-shirt, he played an astonishing and diverse set.

He took us from quiet, calm songs to powerful, chaotic, partly improvised tracks in which he demonstrated his impressive guitar skills.

And he changed guitars as frequently as he changed the volume and pace of his songs.

A moment of silence
The artist clearly enjoys his music, often appearing to be in his own world while performing, but nonetheless he managed to connect with the audience by telling small anecdotes.

The audience descended into silence and shone flashlights from their phones when Bay played a song dedicated to the victims of the terror attacks in Brussels, which had just happened a day before the concert.

Surely there is a lot more to come from James Bay. After all, how can he fail with his music, hat, guitar, and understanding of being calm and chaotic all at once.
