Refugees trying to get into Sweden from Denmark under trucks

Ferry company says asylum-seekers are hanging under vehicles during crossings

North Zealand Police has confirmed that the company HH Ferries has sent a letter to its freight customers warning that asylum-seekers are trying to secure themselves under trucks headed for Sweden.

The Justice Ministry has informed the legal affairs committee Folketingets Retsudvalg that it knows of eight refugees who tried to enter Sweden on or hanging beneath trucks taking the ferry crossing between Helsingør and Helsingborg.

North Zealand Police acknowledged that it knows of four attempts to illegally cross the Sound in a truck during the first five months of this year.

Those attempts were detected by drivers, truckers or guards from the private security G4S. North Zealand Police has also received an email from the Swedish police confirming a similar incident in Sweden.

North Zealand Police said that there have been no incidents since extra patrols were added in the area in mid-May.
