Police on the island of Funen are searching for a 10-year-old girl who may have been snatched by the same man suspected of carrying out two recent sexual attacks on girls of the same age, public broadcaster DR has reported.

On Wednesday evening, a 10-year-old girl was snatched and sexually assaulted by a man in the eastern Funen town of Refsvindinge. On October 26, an 11-year-old girl was attacked in a similar manner in southern Funen. And now, earlier today, a 10-year-old girl reported that she witnessed a girl of the same age being forced into a red car – the same vehicle description that followed both of the earlier attacks. 

Police are now on the lookout for the vehicle, but stressed that as of yet no parents have reported a missing child. 

The man suspected of carrying out the two earlier attacks remains on the loose, however, so police are taking the newest development seriously.

“We have thoroughly searched the area with a helicopter, but we have thus far not found a red vehicle that is thought to be in the area,” Henrik Justesen, the vice inspector for the Funen Police, told DR. 

DR reports that Funen residents, especially those with small children, are on edge following the news that one girl was assaulted yesterday and that another was potentially snatched today. Police say that they have received over 100 tip-offs from residents.

“When it involves children, people really want to help because there is nothing worse than an offence against a child,” Justesen told DR.
