International bookshop examines intricacies of hierarchy and high-society with two events this week

Readers, acting aficionados and internationals alike are invited to join in two workshops this week at Hellerup's international hub Books & Company.

Plaza Suite 719

Step out of Denmark and into New York tonight for a live reading of Neil Simon’s witty comedy ‘Plaza Suite'. The play glimpses into the intricacies of three vastly different couples' lives, who all occupy Suite 719 in New York’s famed Plaza hotel at different times. Following the reading, the audience are invited to take on the role of the directors themselves, partaking in a feedback and input session while enjoying a glass of gløgg. The actors present will include Ian Burns and Sue Hansen-Styles.

Upstairs/Downstairs

Fans of the Crawley family won’t want to miss this Downton Abbey-inspired event. Speaker Lise Lotte Frederiksen delves into an analysis of the series to interpret how the characters form interaction patterns across class borders. Frederiksen brings her previous experiences at Highclere Castle (the real-life location of Downtown Abbey) and at a nearby school for butlers to the table this evening. The talk will also feature other instances of the upstairs-downstairs concept in Nordic literature and world-famous publications.
