Björk is first official addition to Roskilde

Days after Springsteen news leaks, Roskilde makes first official announcement

The eccentric Icelandic musician Björk is the first official addition to the 2012 Roskilde Festival.

The festival announced its first official act days after Bruce Springsteen spilled the beans about his Roskilde gig on his official website.

The infamous Icelandic idol was called “a true ‘Roskilde act’” by festival organisers.

“She is at once a musical sorceress with Icelandic lava flowing through the veins, iconic pop star and electronic wonder kid,” the festival wrote in their official release. “Throughout the last 18 years, each new album has been a bold move in a new direction, and Roskilde Festival has been one of the regular stops on her musical travels.”

BjörkÂ’s albums have been viewed by critics as an innovative step in new directions.  Her music spans many genres, from rock to jazz to some folk and classical.

BjörkÂ’s new album project, ‘BiophiliaÂ’, combines music with technological innovation where all five senses are stimulated.  Fans not only listen to the unique musical arrangements but also can view a sleek website, learn from educational workshops and play with each songÂ’s individualized app.

Her intimate lyrics and robust voice have earned Björk 12 Grammy Awards, four BRIT awards and the 2010 Polar Music Prize from the Swedish Music Academy.

Björk last performed at Roskilde in 2007 where she owned the stage with her soprano vocals mixed with the African melodies and beats of her previous album ‘Volta’.

With the early bookings of Springsteen and Bj̦rk, the 2012 Roskilde Festival is off to a strong start. The festival runs July 5 Р8.
