Springsteen to play Roskilde

Iconic rocker announces the July 7 date on his official website

The Boss will be playing the 2012 Roskilde Festival.

American rock icon Bruce Springsteen has announced his 2012 European tour schedule and it includes a July 7 stop at Roskilde. The Boss, as Springsteen has come to be known during his nearly 40-year career, will be joined by his longtime backing group, the E Street Band.

The Roskilde Festival has yet to confirm the Springsteen appearance, but on its Facebook page on Monday morning fans were posting messages of pure glee in response to the news that the festival had landed one of the biggest names in the music business.

Last yearÂ’s Roskilde Festival was criticised by many for lacking big-name headliners. By booking Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the 2012 incarnation of the festival has already secured a major draw.

The 62-year-old New Jersey native will be releasing a new studio album in 2012, the 18th of his career. There is currently no release date or title for the upcoming release.

Springsteen has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide and has earned numerous accolades during his career, including 20 Grammy Awards. His 1984 release, ‘Born in the U.S.A.’, sold 30 million copies and generated seven Top 10 singles in the US.

Springsteen has earned a reputation as a tremendous live performer and his concerts often clock in at well over three hours. Whether or not Danish fans will be treated to a marathon show at Roskilde remains to be seen, but what is certain is that the first name attached to the Roskilde Festival has generated a lot of buzz.

The 2012 Roskilde Festival will take place July 5 – 8. Tickets go on sale December 1.
