War on the dancefloor

March 14, 17:00-01:00; main event at Vega, Enghavevej 40, Cph V; 180kr; floorwars.dk

Floor wars is dancing its way back into Copenhagen for the tenth year in a row with the gyrating b-boy crews literally bending over backwards to score points from the watching judges.

B-boying, as this dance style is popularly known, originates from the rough tough streets of New York and is deeply rooted in hip-hop culture.

Some of the acrobatics involved are quite stunning as the individuals and 3 x 3 crews take turns to do battle in a competitive atmosphere of mutual respect.

When the doors open at 16:00 you can catch international crews such as Legacy from Spain, Funk Fockers from Brazil or South Korea’s Seven Commandoz.

The crews of three are the main event while the ‘great 8’ have worked hard to get through their national qualification and pre-qualification rounds.

The proud winners of the most recent Floor Wars in Italy, the Italian crew De Klan, are in Copenhagen to strut their stuff in the arena and will be among the favourites to take the honours.

It will be a pulsating spectator sport in the tightly packed and intimate surroundings of Vega – a great day out to be enthralled by the tricky footwork and spirit of comradeship.

And if the energy has inspired you, then keep an eye out for the legendary Floor Wars After-Party to bust your own moves into the small hours.
