Foreign Ministry advises Danes caught up in Peru mayhem to be patient

At least 20 Danish nationals are believed to be in the touristy area near Machu Picchu in Peru, where a state of nationwide emergency has been called following the ousting of now-former President Pedro Castillo.

The Danes are 20 of around 800 tourists who have been stranded since Tuesday, and the Foreign Ministry advises them to remain where they are and monitor developments.

At all cost, they are warned to avoid demonstrations and anything that attracts large crowds.

No curfews
Machu Picchu is not in one of the 15 provinces where five-day night-time curfews were called yesterday.

Machu Picchu is located approximately 250 km from Brazil, 300 km from Bolivia and 600 km from Chile.

All train services have been suspended in the country.
