Danish Maritime Museum wins DETAIL Prize 2014

Yet another award for Danish architect group BIG

The Danish maritime museum in Helsingør has been awarded the prestigious DETAIL Prize this year.

The architectural project of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) was selected among 343 other projects from 41 countries.

Readers voted for migrant learning centre
The DETAIL Prize aims to highlight the importance of architecture for society and the role of architects in public life.

All submissions were supposed to provide innovative solutions within a coherent overall concept.

While the expert committee voted for BIG's museum, readers of the architectural journal Detail opted for the Kwel Kah Baung Migrant Learning Center by a.gor.a architects from Thailand.

Innovation with respect to history
BIG is a Copenhagen and New York-based group of architects, designers, builders and thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research and development.

Its maritime museum has been awarded numerous international prizes including the World Architecture Festival Cultural Category, RIBA Awards, European Prize of Architecture Philippe Rotthier and Archdaily Cultural Building of the Year.

The new Danish Maritime Museum is a subterranean museum built around a dry dock adjacent to Kronborg Castle, and although innovative, it blends well with the historic surroundings.
