Aldi pulls smoked salmon brand due to listeria concerns

Customers advised to return product to stores for a refund or toss it out

The supermarket chain Aldi has pulled smoked salmon marketed under the brand name Delikato from its shelves after discovering listeria in one of the packets.

The recall concerns 50 gram packets bearing the EAN number 25066241, which were produced on June 2 and are best before June 30.

Two Danes died in April after being infected with listeria. The disease produces flu-like symptoms such as headache and fever.

In rare cases, listeria can cause meningitis and blood poisoning, according to food quality control watchdog Fødevarestyrelsen.
