Copenhagen named best culinary destination

Capital gets yet another award – this time for its culinary achievements

Describing Copenhagen as "a place brimming with aromatic bakeries, comforting coffee shops, and brilliant chefs offering some of the most inventive and, at times, healthiest cuisines on Earth", the American magazine Saveur has declared it the best culinary destination in the world.

However, while Copenhagen won the experts' vote, the magazine's readers opted for San Sebastian in Spain.

"How could we not be swept away by Copenhagen? This former Viking fishing village on the eastern shore of the island of Zealand has made quite the transition toward culinary modernity, with no less than 15 Michelin-starred restaurants," noted the magazine.

"It’s a city where unforgettable versions of international dishes can be found, from French, to Asian, to Danish mainstays like the open-faced sandwiches known as smørrebrød."

VisitDenmark rubbing hands with glee
VisitDenmark, the Danish tourist organisation, is delighted about Saveur's recognition, reports Metroexpress.

The magazine is one of the largest food magazines in the US, and its website gets over one million visitors per month.

"The Saveur award is another example of what a well-established position, as a gastronomic destination, Copenhagen has in the United States," Bruno Bedholm from VisitDenmark told the newspaper.

Earlier this week, CNN selected Copenhagen as the healthiest city, while the magazine Monocle named it the most liveable place in the world this year.
