Dane on US terror list

Abdessamad Fateh aka Abu Hamza is from Aarhus

The US authorities have added a Danish citizen to their Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) list.

The Dane – whose name is Abdessamad Fateh and also goes under the name of Abu Hamza – is known in the Islamic environments of Aarhus and Copenhagen. He has appeared online a number of times praising Islamic State (IS).

The US Department of State wrote that Fateh was “a member of a Scandinavian-based network of extremists allegedly linked to al-Qa’ida, who has travelled to Syria”, but wouldn’t reveal why any details about why he was on the list now.

Apartment in Gellerupparken
The Danish authorities have been silent about Fateh, and the Danish intelligence agency PET did not want to comment on the issue.

Fateh has an official address in an apartment in Gellerupparken, Brabrand in Jutland, but his sister who lives in the apartment did not know his whereabouts.

Fateh is the former head of a now-defunct company that was reportedly involved in considerable VAT fraud involving large numbers of chicken breasts.

PET estimates there are at least 100 people in Denmark who are or have been fighting in Syria or Iraq.
