CIS sells school in Hellerup to local council

The sale is an important step towards completing its new Nordhavn school project

Copenhagen International School has announced that it has sold its school facilities on Hellerupvej in Gentofte to the local council.

The school wrote in a press release that the sale was an important step towards completing its new school project in the Nordhavn district of the city.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gentofte for many years of good collaboration – and to congratulate the council on the decision to buy back the school that we bought from them in 1993,” Walter Plotkin, the head of CIS, said.

“It is a beautiful house and we have taken very good care of it over the years. And while we look forward to the move to our brand new school in Nordhavn, we will also miss the lovely buildings in Hellerupvej.”

Nordhavn by 2016
CIS has renovated the Hellerupvej buildings over the years and added new facilities, including a 1,100 sqm sports hall, an atrium cafeteria, a library, a performing arts centre, outdoor play areas, all-weather sports fields and a primary school building with 12 classrooms.

The school, which first opened its doors back in 1963, will be moving to Nordhavn in August 2016, merging its assets in Hellerup and Østerbro into a new state-of-the-art international school that will increase its capacity from 900 to 1,200 students.

The new school will be located on the waterfront area on Levantkaj, close to the forthcoming Nordhavn metro station.
