Eurovision organisers could face 10 million kroner fine

Memorandum from the Capital Region suggests breach of tender law

The company behind Denmark’s hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest, Projektselskabet, on several occasions failed to make requests for tender when it found subcontractors for putting on the event, according to a memorandum from the Capital Region, Metroxpress reports.

Stupidity or cheek?
Sune Troels Poulsen, a professor of law at Copenhagen University, told Metroxpress that this was a clear sign that the company had acted against the law. ”That’s a clear breach of the rules. It doesn’t look pretty,” she said.

Peter Vesterdorf, an expert in EU law, told the newspaper that Projektselskabet could face fines of up to 10 million kroner. ”It must be caused by incomprehensible stupidity or enormous cheek,” he said.

”I’ve never before seen the rules being disregarded in such a big case.”

DF wants resignations
Dansk Folkeparti is calling for resignations from the heads of Projektselskabet and Wonderful Copenhagen.

”It’s completely unacceptable,” Kenneth Kristensen of DF told Metroxpress. ”Trust in them is gone.”

In an email to the newspaper, Projektselskabet said: "If there were mistakes in the administration of the project, it is of course regrettable and should be investigated”.
