Biggest increase among minority boys

A new report from the Education Ministry shows that 93 percent of young people are continuing their educations beyond public school, which is an increase of five percent since 2009 and just two percent short of the government's 95 percent target.

Minority boy percentage rises
The numbers are of boys from minority backgrounds continuing their education also rose, up from 74 percent in 2009 to 81 percent, while girls from minority backgrounds are doing almost as well as girls from 'Danish backgrounds'.

More focus on IT and manual education
However, the education minister, Christine Antorini, still thinks there is work to be done.

“Generally, we have a boy problem, which we have to address in connection with the reform of the public school system,” Christine Antorini told Jyllands-Posten.

Antorini suggested that more varied education forms such as IT and manual education would get the boys involved.
