Faroe Islands to get two new underwater tunnels

Two tunnels will connect three of the largest islands in 2024

The parliament of the Faroe Islands has decided to spend 1.9 billion kroner on building two underwater tunnels that will link the archipelago's largest islands in 2024, Ingeniøren reports.

Creating the tunnels will be the largest public construction project ever undertaken on the Faroe Islands.

New routes to Eysturoy and Sandoy
One tunnel will connect the islands of Eysturoy and Streymoy and will be named the 'Eysturoyar tunnel', while the other, linking Streymoy with Sandoy, will be named the 'Sandoyar tunnel'.

Streymoy is home to the capital, Tórshavn, and is the largest and most populous island of the Faroe Islands.
