Running the world with CIS

Fun-run takes them to Spain – now they want to paddle to Peru

The Copenhagen International School has set itself a target of collectively running the 11,800km between its premises and Peru by October 11, and it needs your help.

On Sunday September 22, a fundraising funrun saw 260 participants collectively run an impressive 2,255km – enough to take the mission to southern Spain. But there is still the small matter of the Atlantic Ocean to negotiate: a further 9,545 km.

In short, or long if you’re a pessimist, the CIS needs your help to achieve its target. By walking or running and recording how many kilometres you cover, you can help the school fulfill the necessary distance.

Should the full distance be achieved, the trail will take CIS to the doors of the Mama Cocha’s Children’s Home in Los Organos, which was built in 2008 with funding and support from Team Peru, an  extra-curricular programme at the school.

Founded in 2005, Team Peru, which is based on the idea of “young people helping young people”, aims to raise awareness about the plight of abandoned abused and neglected children in Peru.

The children’s home now provides a permanent home for nine children, and once every two years, trips to Peru allow students to experience the impact of their support.

The next trip will take place in April, and over the course of the next few months, 15 students will be chosen through an interview process to form the team that will go to Peru, where they will carry out physical work to maintain Mama Cocha.

The participants in the funrun paid an entrance fee to help raise funds to maintain the children’s home. However, while donations are gratefully received, the CIS principally wants your kilometres. Contact Lorraine Wykes at LorraineWykes@cis.dk to make a donation: of kilometres or cash or both.
