Speculation begins over who will be the new justice minister

With Bødskov out, rumours swirl about who will replace him

Defence Minister Nicolai Wammen (S) and Karen Hækkerup (S), the food minister, are on the shortlist of those expected to replace Morten Bødskov (S) as the country’s justice minister.

Some pundits put Wammen in the top spot because he, like Bødskov, is extremely loyal to PM Helle Thorning-Schmidt (S). Sources inside Socialdemokraterne told Berlingske newspaper that they are pushing for Karen Hækkerup to get the job.

Christine Cordsen, the political editor at Jyllands-Posten, said that her money is also on Hækkerup.

“Of those mentioned, I think Karen Hækkerup has the best chance,” she wrote.

Those eyeing Wammen said that his reliability, loyalty to Thorning-Schmidt and popularity might tip the scales in his favour.

It is Thorning- Schmidt who will make the final decision, and some say that could come as early as Thursday.
