Select Shopping | Optimistic winter is over? Fortune favours the bather

Swimming costumes
Bikini season is lurking right around the corner – which after the double whammy of Christmas and Easter might be too close to comfort for some! But what if you want to go swimming to get in shape and reacquire your bikini season figure? Aha, there’s the rub! But then again, have you considered a swimming costume? It will cover up your midriff and is a good option when it’s a bit chilly – even if it is only at your local pool.

Surprisingly enough, swimming costumes are fairly hard to find if you don’t want either the sporty version, which always looks like it has been designed for the professional sportswomen of the world,  or the ones that chlorine too quickly turn un-shapely.

No, this Select Shopping has just one priority: to find you the kind of swimming costume you’ll be happy to wear to get yourself ready for bikini season.

Sportmaster
This is the place to go if you want to find the recognised brands, Arena etc, and the fits that are designed for athletes. In other words: not necessarily very flattering and also for some reason most of the colours they offer are decidedly off. Either you have to go for the psychedelic multi-coloured swimming costumes that looked like what you desperately wanted when you were five, or the more discreet versions that are just plain boring. The prices start at 300 kroner.

Various locations including Vimmelskaftet 39, Cph K; open Mon-Thu 10:00-18:00, Fri 10:00-19:00, Sat 10:00-17:00; www.sportmaster.dk

Føtex
Somewhat surprisingly, Føtex has a small but good collection of swimming costumes. They have discreet and neutral colours, the quality is very good and the prices are competitive to say the least.

Various locations; open Mon-Fri 08:00-20:00, Sat-Sun 08:00-18:00; www.foetex.dk

Toast
This is a bit of a cheat since it is an online catalogue. They make beautiful swimming costumes though – these are very much costumes unlike most of the other swimming costumes and ones you’ll actually want to wear during bikini seasons as well. Their sizes are a big fit – so you will do well to order a size smaller than you usually fit. Their prices start at around 620 kroner.

Joules
There isn’t too much choice here, but you can’t really go wrong with this model since it suits almost everyone – bikini season or not. It is a bit Mad Men-inspired and reasonably priced – mostly because you can justify the purchase as an almost bikini season purchase as well. The price is £49.95 (440 kroner).

Tolerated, but barely: inside Denmark’s departure centers

Currently, around 170 people live on “tolerated stay” in Denmark, a status for people who cannot be deported but are denied residency and basic rights. As SOS Racisme draws a concerning picture of their living conditions in departure centers, such as Kærshovedgård, they also suggest it might be time for Denmark to reinvent its policies on deportation
