Copenhagen Police today carried out raids at 61 addresses, resulting in 36 arrests and a significant haul of weapons.

 

The raids were carried out in co-ordination with various police agencies, the tax authority Skat and the special gang unit Task Force East. The action was aimed at members of biker gangs and other street gangs.

 

"It was a very satisfying effort, where we arrested suspected perpetrators in several of the gang-related shootings and attacks over the last few months," Jørgen Skov of Copenhagen Police said in a press release.

 

Seven guns were confiscated in the raids, as were swords, knives, batons, heavy-duty fireworks, and assorted drugs and doping substances.

 

Among the arrests was a 19-year-old man who is suspected of killing a 27-year-old man in Frederiksberg in February. 

 

"Today was an opportunity to make clear to the bikers and gang members that under no circumstances will we accept violent conflicts, and that we will use all of our means to apprehend the guilty parties," Skov said in the release. "At the same time, we want to engage the gang members in a dialogue and offer them help to come out of the criminal environment."

 

The police action was carried out on the same day that the two major biker gangs, Bandidos and Hells Angels, reached a peace agreement. 

 

Since January, there have been upwards of 40 shootings that have resulted in at least three deaths.
