More arrests on the way in multiple stabbing cases

Cops say seperate stabbing incidents are gang related

Police said today that they expect to make more arrests in the wake of two gang-related stabbings in northwest Copenhagen over a four-day period that started last Friday. A 19-year-old man suspected of being involved in both attacks is already in custody and police want to see him tried for attempted murder.

“Our investigation has been intense, and we expect to make more arrests based on the technical evidence and witness statements we've collected,” Knud Hvass, Copenhagen’s police commissioner. told Ritzau.

Hvass declined to say when those arrests might happen.

Last Friday, two young men were attacked by a group of people on Frederiksborgvej. Both men were stabbed, and police believe that the perpetrators belong to a gang from Blågårds Plads area in Nørrebro.

On Monday, a 22-year-old student was assaulted by three to four masked men at Københavns Tekniske Skole on Rebslagervej in Nørrebro. The victim was beaten with a club and stabbed nine times, but is reported to be out of danger and recovering from his wounds.

Police continue to search for connections between the two crimes. They are asking anyone who may have come in contact with gang members to reach out to the police.

“We would love to hear from anyone who believes they may have run into some type of roving vigilantes, because the cases may overlap,” said Hvass.

Police have also extended their stop-and-search zones, which give them temporary powers to stop anyone without probable cause and search them or their vehicle for weapons.

Currently, around 170 people live on “tolerated stay” in Denmark, a status for people who cannot be deported but are denied residency and basic rights. As SOS Racisme draws a concerning picture of their living conditions in departure centers, such as Kærshovedgård, they also suggest it might be time for Denmark to reinvent its policies on deportation
