Select Shopping | Fit! But does it fit?

It is a well-known fact that men are expected to buy their girlfriends sexy underwear and that they tend to suck at it. They inevitably buy the wrong size – possibly as a result of wishful thinking or perhaps in an attempt not to tick off their girlfriend. But there is another good explanation for their lack of success. It is notoriously difficult to find good well-fitting bras. There is a reason for Trinny and Susannah’s success at grabbing women’s breasts all over the world and making a show of it. So this Select Shopping is about tracking down the experts who can help you find the right size.

Hunkemöller

This is an inexpensive but good brand – where they have the added bonus of professional and alert staff. They patiently listen and find what you are looking for whilst being honest about what actually works – so you don’t make the same rookie mistakes as your boyfriend.

Lyngby Storcenter 810, Lyngby; open Mon-Fri 10:00-19:00, Sat 10:00-17:00, Sun 11:00-16:00; www.lyngbystorcenter.dk/damemode/hunkemoeller

Fogal

In spite of its great location, it is easily overlooked. The service is excellent though, and you find yourself with well-fitting bras you didn’t expect would suit you. It is a bit pricy, but the quality is good.

Fogal, Østergade 2, Cph K; open Mon-Thu 10:00-18:00, Fri 10:00-19:00, Sat 10:00-17:00, Sun closed; www.stroget-kobenhavn.dk/language/en/butik/fogal

Illum

You won’t find inexpensive bras here – but you’ll walk away with bras that last a long time. The service is very good – they take their time to guide you through all the different models and sizes. You are not invaded in the changing room by an over-enthusiastic salesperson – but they are at hand so you can get their opinion about the right fit.

Illum, Østergade 52, Cph K; open Mon-Thu 10:00-19:00, Fri 10:00-20:00, Sat 10:00-19:00, Sun 11:00-16:00; www.illum.dk/en

Magasin

Here the staff are helpful when they are around – which they rarely are. You don’t really want to make your way out into the open wearing only your bra and getting dressed to go out for help every time is too much of a hassle. So this is the place to go – if you have already successfully found the bra you like and only need to purchase one at their incredibly good sales.

Kongens Nytorv 13, Cph K; open Mon-Sun 10:00-20:00; www.magasin.dk
