Swan Lake-This spectacular ballet combines breathtaking choreography with Tchaikovsky’s music. More than 40 Moscow Ballet dancers will take to the stage in the enchanting Tivoli atmosphere. The story centres on the wizard Von Rothbart who has put a spell on the young queen Odette. She is forced to live a life as a swan by day and a human by night. The spell can only be broken if a young man promises to love her forever.

Carmen-Carmen, composed by Frenchman Georges Bizet, is undoubtedly one of the best known operas. The tale depicts a seductive woman who wraps unsuspecting men around her little finger. Guido Paevatalu, who is responsible for staging this intense chamber version, has had a long career singing opera with the Royal Theatre, as well as having played the role of the bullfighter in a previous production of Carmen. This intense chamber version of the famous opera features dramatic music mixed with video projections.

Isabel Allende at the Black Diamond-Chilean-American author Isabel Allende is the first of four writers visiting Copenhagen over the next two months as part of the Black Diamond’s International Authors Forum. The author of the bestseller ‘The House of Spirits’ became the third recipient of the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award last year for her work in the genre of children’s writing, although most of her work is clearly aimed at adult readers.

East by Southeast Film Festival-Sit back in the darkness and allow yourself to be mystified by Vegatarian Cannibal, the story of a womanising gynaecologist who accidently kills a pregnant woman and gets dragged deep into the underworld of Zagreb. The fascinating Croatian film, which is based on a true story, is just one example of the 12 new fictional and documentary films from Middle and Eastern Europe that will enlighten the dark afternoons through the month of October. Thirteen countries in total will be represented at the East by Southeast film festival, showing everything from Transylvanian satire to Polish animation.
