Select Shopping | Make your abode hyggelig

Danish designers are heralded for their ability to combine simple lines, modern materials, quality craftsmanship and functionality into elegant and timeless furniture. From the iconic egg chair to the PH lamp, Danish design is celebrated far beyond these borders. These four delightful shops-come-showrooms will put the hygge into your abode – and how!

Normann Copenhagen – Design is a way of living – that’s what lies at the core of Normann Copenhagen’s philosophy. Its flagship store is impressive, with high ceilings, furniture, accessories and clothes, and a shop window display that changes every day. The store stocks some delightful homeware – everyday items with a bit of flair. For example, a vase that looks like blades of grass, cognac glasses that roll on their side like spinning tops and wine stoppers made from cork.

Bolia – This is classic Scandinavian style that won’t cost you an arm-chair and a table-leg. At Bolia you will find simple and functional items made from honest materials. All the necessities are here: sofas, coffee tables, dinner tables, cushions, lamps etc. And some not-so-necessary things: a cow-print ottoman or a plaster robot statue for the living room.

Hay – Hay attempts to rekindle the design innovation seen during the 1950s and 60s with designs that lie somewhere between fashion and architecture. Their Pinocchio rugs are gorgeous. Named after a type of coloured candy, this rug looks like a kaleidoscope of coloured felt balls strung together. Their powder-coated steel tables have a handle so you can cart your coffee with you around your apartment.

Beau Marche – And for those not yet converted to minimalistic Danish interiors, Beau Marche has something a little more French. This chic shop and café has a range of eclectic furniture items. From retro French-café style table and chair settings, to bar stools, vintage champagne boxes and old rocking horses. But the best part is that you can combine your browsing with a salad or croissant, enjoyed in a charming setting that could one day resemble your living room.
