Dane breaks arcade game record in 49-hour marathon session

The record had stood for 27 years

A 27-year old record for the arcade game Gyruss has been broken this Monday at 8 in the morning.

Kim Köbke, or “Kanonarm“, a Danish arcade game champ took 49 hours and 16 minutes – continuous gameplay mind you – to blast 62,200,250 points.

Originally 49-year old had planned to keep going for a 100 hours on a single coin, but as the record had already been broken, and he was starting to see things (that weren’t the space ships he had to concentrate on), he followed his body’s calling to stop.

The space war game Gyruss had been developed by Konami in 1983, and designed by Yoshiki Okamoto, who is also the author of the popular game Street Fighter.
