Copenhagen gives thumbs up to boobs in the pool

It is exactly one year since the City Council's culture affairs committee ruled that women can swim topless in Copenhagen swimming pools.

The committee's decision was almost unanimous, with only Dansk Folkeparti disagreeing, although there are a few details to look into before the green light is officially given.

It’s about equal rights
SF’s proposal comes after a group of topless women protested in December 2012 in DGI-Byen swimming pool, where topless swimming is not allowed.

The DGI-Byen group argued that their protest to gain the right to be bare-breasted in swimming pools was part of the struggle against the increasing sexual objectification of the female body.

The protest action was inspired by Swedish feminists who have been battling for bare breasts in swimming pools in Sweden for years.
