Two sisters have died and a third is in critical condition after a tragic accident at their family farm near the Jutland town of Ringkøbing.
The sisters, aged six, nine and 13, were discovered trapped beneath hay bales on Thursday by their father, who raised the alarm.
The nine-year-old was declared dead when she arrived at Herning Hospital, while the 13-year-old was pronounced dead this morning.
The six-year-old is being treated at Aarhus University Hospital, and according to Jyllands-Posten is in “critical” condition.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident. According to Jyllands-Posten, Police say the three to five hay bales, which were stacked in a barn on the family’s property, fell on the girls.
It is not known what caused them to fall, the length of time that the girls were trapped or whether they were crushed or suffocated by the bales.
