March saw the lowest ever number of traffic deaths

There were only 195 accidents that caused personal injuries – the second-lowest figure for March in a decade

According to the road authorities, Vejdirektoratet, just eight people lost their lives in traffic accidents throughout Denmark in March, making it the month with the fewest traffic deaths registered since records began in the 1930s.

It is not possible to ascertain why the traffic casualty figures for March were so low, but falls in the number of deaths from traffic accidents are generally attributed to better car security, campaigns against speeding, better roads and more stringent fines.

”The figures from March confirm that it is generally heading in the right direction with traffic safety in Denmark,” Stig Hemdorff, a project leader at Vejdirektoratet, said in a press release.

“And it is even more significant since March wasn’t a winter month. Normally, we see the fewest traffic deaths in hard winter months during which people drive slowly and safely.”

Good all around
March was also a good month for other traffic parameters. There were only 195 accidents that caused personal injuries, which is the second-lowest figure for March in a decade.

Moreover, there were only 242 injuries compared to 276 in March 2013.
