Transport minister blasts postal service for social dumping

Magnus Heunicke said that he intends to meet with Post Danmark and demand an explanation

The transport minister Magnus Heunicke has openly criticised the national postal service Post Danmark for using eastern European labour via distributors that pay well below Danish wages.

Post Danmark has admitted that 10 percent of its transport services are performed by distributors who employ foreign drivers who are often paid a quarter of what their Danish counterparts get.

“I want to make it perfectly clear to Post Danmark,” Heunicke told TV2 News. “I though you understood my message that when work is done in Denmark it must be on Danish terms. And I don’t want to see eastern Europeans underbid Danish labour.”

Thousands of jobs gone
Numerous foreign vehicles leave the Danish postal terminals on a daily basis. TV2 News has documented at least two examples of foreign vehicles leaving the country with Danish trailers attached.

Heunicke said that he intended to meet with Post Danmark and demand an explanation after the Whitsun holidays.

According to a Danish transport advocacy group, Dansk Transport og Logistik, eastern European truckers have cost the Danish labour market upwards of 7,000 jobs.
