Dance pushes the boundaries this week

 

Knitting project
Contemporary dance is well known for pushing boundaries, but surely not if those boundaries are hem-lines! That’s right: the fifth edition of the ongoing series Thousand Threads sees the premiere of a knitting and dance performance! Featuring a workshop by American knitting guru Stephen West and a performance by one of the UK’s most celebrated modern dancers, Kirstie Simson, the audience are invited to knit during the performance. Now that’s what we call alternative.

Back again for a short run after its breakout success in 2011, Tim Rushton’s short choreographed ballet piece Love Songs is set to music arranged by jazz singer Caroline Henderson.

The Royal Ballet’s new group Corpus is staging its first full evening, promising sex, surrealism and nudity as it explores the DNA central to every performer. Be prepared to be taken further into the engine room of contemporary dance than ever before.
