DR lockout threatening World Cup coverage

The first match DR is scheduled to broadcast is Mexico vs Cameroon on Friday June 13

Football fans, look away now if you don't want to know the score.

Because there is a potential lockout simmering in the halls of the national broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR) that could impact on the broadcaster’s coverage of the World Cup next month.

DR has warned that a lockout could start as early as June 1 because of a conflict between management and the broadcasting department.

And a worst-case scenario could lead to football fans in Denmark being greeted by a black screen instead of the greatest sporting event in the world, which is due to kick off on June 12.

Jacob Kwon, the head of DR’s sports broadcasting department, said that nothing has yet been resolved, but he remained hopeful.

“It depends on what happens,” Kwon told BT tabloid.

“There could evolve a sympathy strike and the lockout could impact on our broadcast crew. But I would say that a lot has to go wrong for us not to transmit the World Cup games.”
