A mouthful of Milan and a gulp of Genoa

A glass of Chianti in your left hand, a cannoli in your right and the sun shining above your head as you stroll the grounds of Tivoli and peruse fresh cheeses and inhale the aromas of Italian delicacies − sounds heavenly, right?

This weekend, Tilovi is lending its grounds to the Taste of Italy, a market where over 20 shops and manufacturers will be selling their quality products.

Doors open at 14:00 on Friday, and you will immediately be surrounded by the wafting scents of vino and basil, Parmesan cheese and seasoned calamari. The first day features new suppliers and specialty meats, imported through the Danish company C&E Gastro. Competitions and raffles also abound: guess three different grapes at Gallovini’s stand and win the three respective wines, or enter to win two bottles of Brunello di Montalcino from Il Marroneto, a winery from the Tuscan region of Italy.

Saturday opens earlier at 10:00, as a whole new day to explore Italy starts. Take a cooking class and learn how to cook fish the Italian way, oiled and spiced to perfection (you’ll be a professional by the end of the day!). Wineries and restaurants hailing all the way from Europe’s ‘boot’ will be in attendance, setting up stalls and booths all weekend. Taste fresh oils, pestos, and spices at manufacturer Minasso’s stand, or go by Kasamia’s booth to adopt an olive tree. Samples of brochette from Del Mastro, sausages from Helgi Cheese and stuffed olives from Luna Garden will all be vying to delight your taste buds.

Sunday is the last day for you to experience Italy. Get to the festival at 10:00 and take it easy. Maybe find some gifts for your friends and family, since the goodies will be in great abundance. Paolo & Barbara Restaurant, a fantastically traditional eatery from Italy, has desserts on hand, from cookies and cakes to homemade jams. Kasamia will be selling rich chocolates and, of course, Gelateria Romana Gio will be serving quintessential Italian ice cream. Fingers crossed that it’s warm enough to enjoy! After a long day of sweet-toothed delights and vino, relax with a steaming cup of strong Italian espresso. It’ll be the perfect way to punctuate this festival of colourful Italian culture.

A weekend in Italy sounds like paradise, especially in the midst of this seemingly neverending wintry spring. But pocket that money you’re saving on booking a last-minute flight down to the Mediterranean and stop by Tivoli instead. You get the beauty of the park in sunshine with the culinary whirlwind of Italian wines and foods − it’s the best of both worlds. Get your ticket quickly!
