More than 100 million trips were taken on the S-train in 2024

In 2024, the number of trips made on Denmark’s S-train network reached 112.1 million, according to reports by DSB to TV 2 Kosmopol. This number refers to the total number of individual journeys made by passengers, and of course not the number of rides made by the trains themselves.

It´s an average of 300,000 trips a day. This marks a 6% increase in travel compared to the previous year.

“As more and more people choose the S-train, it highlights the competitiveness of our service for the hundreds of thousands who rely on it daily,” said Aske Wieth-Knudsen, Deputy Director at DSB.

The peak travel day occurred on Friday, November 29, with 451,704 passengers. DSB attributes this surge to the combined effects of Black Friday shopping and festive Christmas lunches.

    The closure followed a minor traffic accident caused by a driver who refused to stop when requested by Swedish police.

    Copenhagen Police Chief Jonathan Wald stated, “We have arrested the person in question, and now we must clarify the incident.”

    Copenhagen police assisted Swedish authorities in apprehending the driver.

    Young women are generally more addicted to social media than men, according to the new study “Young Consumers and Social Media”, by the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority.

    The average time spent on social media across platforms in Denmark is 2 hours and 40 minutes daily, but there were significant variations depending on gender and age. Across these groups, girls and young women spent significantly more time on social media (between 13 and 23 percent more).

    And the difference is most evident among the heaviest social media users, with 12 percent of
    girls and young women spending over five hours per day on social media, compared to only 7 percent of boys and young men.

    The report presents research by the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority on the relationship between young consumers between social media use and well-being among young consumers aged 8 to 25. The research is based on survey responses from 3,445 Danish children, teenagers, and young adults, and 2,381 parents.

    2025 pollen season begins, affecting one million of people in Denmark

    Asthma-Allergy Denmark has detected pollen from alder trees and hazel bushes in its monitoring stations, officially kicking off the 2025 pollen season. This marks the beginning of allergy symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion for around one million people in Denmark.

    Recent measurements show a slight increase in pollen levels from these trees, following the usual seasonal pattern. Mathilde Kloster, head of pollen monitoring at Asthma-Allergy Denmark, notes that while the season is starting in early February as expected, an even earlier onset was avoided this year.

    How intense the season will be depends on several factors, such as last year’s rainfall and nutrients during pollen formation, as well as the weather leading up to and during flowering. Cooler temperatures in early February could slow down pollen release, while warmer weather might speed it up. Rain, on the other hand, can help wash pollen out of the air.

    Many people allergic to birch pollen may already be feeling symptoms due to cross-reactions with alder and hazel pollen, which is common. Experts recommend checking daily pollen forecasts and consulting a doctor to ensure proper treatment throughout the season.

    Annual tax statement for 2024 will open on March 24

    On March 24, 2025, the Danish Tax Authority will open the 2024 annual tax statement, providing millions of citizens with a detailed overview of their tax payments. For the first time, homeowners will be able to see the total payment of property taxes as part of the statement, which will be accessible to around 4.9 million citizens through the government’s digital portal, TastSelv.

    While most citizens will receive a familiar statement, nearly 2.1 million homeowners will see a new addition: their complete property tax payment for the year.

    The Danish Tax Authority is working to ensure the system is ready for the March opening, but as always, they warn of potential adjustments to ensure the best experience for taxpayers. “This is a comprehensive update with many new details to be incorporated at once, and we are committed to providing a smooth process for all users,” says Ulrick Junge, deputy director of the Danish Tax Authority.

    Additionally, citizens will be able to update their information, including adding deductions for services like cleaning or childcare, provided these services were paid for by February 28, 2025. The service deduction for 2024 is up to DKK 11,900 per person.

    The deadline for making corrections is May 1, 2025, with some exceptions for specific cases. First tax refunds will be paid starting April 25, 2025.
